The Dwindling News Cycle- The Blight Of Artificial Intelligence

August 21, 2025 By Conn Williamson

Dogs are no longer permitted on public school campuses, especially within the context of feasting voraciously on homework no longer qualifies as a viable excuse worthy of tepid credibility. Artificial Intelligence has forced its way to the apex of the mountain, usurping the feeding habits of canines and pet rocks across the high alpine traverse to account for the alleged fate of homework on all levels of life. Word has it that the international sorority of dog moms has officially issued a flea collar warning along with a stern sidelong glance against the power struggle shuffle involving Wicken and mythology.

As software bots have infested all components of society, the attrition has now reached the assignment desks at major and minor news broadcast consortiums affecting the latest version of data sharing wires from the era of the Associated Press as machine learning has usurped the discerning human element with a stagnant and pre-programmed approach to disseminating unique content.

While originality has been relegated to the minor league Savannah Banana style of the future cyrofreezing society that may or may not involve the legacy of the late Ted Williams, what has been categorized as news in a traditional sense, is now an arid and paltry wasteland of decay, tumbleweeds and entropy, as creativity faces an Albanian torture chamber complete with a rotating dentist chair, metal tongs and a lifetime supply of  sodium panthenol and the subsequent dreams of Olympic gymnasts doping and minus the polarizing presence of Mary Lou Retton.

With no thanks to the Ted Turner CNN franchise, compelling information has become a premium as pacifist AI engines dominate what once was an unrelenting and foreboding force that touched the surface of creativity and intrigue- the source has been reduced to a pathetically ordained trickle as the quantity has been selected out on the Darwinian scale for the fickle. The human condition of laziness is being replaced by a precision assault on truth and the pursuit of the eventual discombobulation and the deconstruction of relevance.

In the span of two generations, passive research has gone from the height of the 1980’s MTV encyclopedia frenzied information dump and the Dewey decimal system plateauing to a boutique experience resulting in mining of the non-sensical and the irrelevant. As the anomaly of the Information Age continues to pervade, the once powerful search engines of Google, Bing, and Web Crawler have become listless as ineffectual robots convulsing on the one way dead-end of a junkyard, the quivering electric corpses leading to detritus and not treasure. The idea of human interest in the mainstream is no longer passee and has been programmed formidable bias. With the explosion of AI aggregators, fact-checking is nearly non-existent as a gullible end-user base lacks the ability to discern truth from fiction, and competency among the viral deluge of information is replaced by errors and repetitive narratives. This is only exacerbated by the addiction to smart devices, constant digital engagement, and the aversion to demanding accuracy and acceptable structure in writing style. As the world races at the speed of light and the remains of the cultural attention span lie prone and optimism is missing in action, the IQ of the average person plummets.

As the recycling of headlines gradually becomes a dominating force on the public and private airwaves, the differentiation between objectivity and subjectivity veers towards the indiscernible and as a result important issues are left to wallow in the purgatory of ambiguity, while the public, at least the younger generations, are hooked on the glitz and glamor of trendiness and incapable of a sustainable level of critical thought. Ironically, the future is tarnished by humankind’s innovation and eloquence in producing a not-crude simulation of the brain- a claim that the vicious cycle of public education cannot make with an epic failure to forge minds.
