Trump’s Cadre Of “Wise Men” Begin Coming Out Of The Shadows

February 24, 2016 By Peter Johns

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump insist it’s still too early to unveil the braintrust he’ll rely on should he become President.

When asked to name three experts whom he would “consult with or want to hear from on foreign policy,” Trump responded, “I’d rather not because I’m going to be announcing a team in about a week that is really a good team. A team that is recommended highly by me and to me … and a team that I’ve both seen and read about both in papers and seen on your show, and other people. But we’re announcing a team in about a week. So we’re going to keep it a secret for now.”

However, as he racks up primary victories and amasses delegates and his poll numbers remain high nationally and the field narrows, Trump will need to delve into the specifics of how he will fulfill the sweeping pledges he’s made. For example, how will his replacement for Obamacare work; how he’ll save Social Security with cutting benefits; how he will shelve Common Core education standards; how he’ll really rectify the imbalance of trade with China. And more.

Trump has assembled an unofficial ‘kitchen cabinet’ of experts, including long-time New York pal Rudy Guiliani, leading economists Stephen Moore and Art Laffer, and former Education Secretary Bill Bennett. Note the latter two hail from the Reagan era.

And that is an important point that Guiliani emphasizes. Guiliani describes Trump as possessing Reagan’s ability to attract a large number of ‘Reagan Democrats’ who may still be seeking their candidate.

When asked by a reporter if Trump were up to the task of working with nuts-and-bolts on policy issues, Guiliani said, “You know, he’s very good. It’s clear that he has an exceptionally good understanding of how the economy affects our foreign policy.”

“He understand what’s happening with China, how they could stop North Korea in a heartbeat. This idea that he’s only familiar with slogans, it’s not accurate at all,” Guiliani continued.

Trump also confirmed that he and Guiliani is a respected associate. “Rudy is a very knowledgeable friend. I consider his counsel very important.”
