Despite a new CNN poll which says Democrats are “far more energized than Republicans” to vote in the mid-term elections next year, the party still has tanked in popularity, with only 28 percent of Americans viewing Democrats favorably.
This would be especially true among gun owners, after Democrats have become best known as “the party of gun prohibition.” In Colorado and Washington, Democrats have pushed through “permit-to-purchase” legislation. In Oregon, California, New York, New Jersey and elsewhere that Democrats hold majorities in the state legislatures, the party has championed one gun control measure after another.
According to Fox News, the 28 percent rating is “the lowest mark for Democrats in the entire history of CNN polling, going back over 30 years.”
And in a Quinnipiac poll, “Just 19% of voters questioned in a Quinnipiac University national poll give Democrats in Congress a thumbs up on how they’re handling their duties, with 72% disapproving.”
“That’s an all-time low since Quinnipiac University first began asking congressional approval questions in their surveys 16 years ago,” Fox News reported.
Since last October, Democrats’ popularity has declined 11 percent, from 39% last fall to 28% this month.
According to CNN, Republicans didn’t fare too well, either, garnering 33 percent favorable rating.
The Quinnipiac survey had some interesting revelations.
Asked which comes closer to their line of thinking, 50 percent of Quinnipiac respondents believe the American dream is not attainable, while 43 percent think the American dream is alive and well, the survey said.
- Among Democrats, 78 percent think the American dream is not attainable, while 15 percent think it is alive and well.
- Among independents, 51 percent think the American dream is not attainable, while 41 percent think it is alive and well.
- Among Republicans, 18 percent think the American dream is not attainable, while 79 percent think it is alive and well.
- Among women, 57 percent think the American dream is not attainable, while 37 percent think it is alive and well.
- Among men, 42 percent think the American dream is not attainable, while half (50 percent) think it is alive and well.
During his first six months back in office, Trump’s administration has reversed Biden administration gun control policies. Attorney General Pam Bondi launched a 2A Task Force at the Justice Department.
While CNN may be painting a bright picture of Democrats, party strategist James Carville wrote in an Op-Ed published in the New York Times the party may be “steamrolling toward a civilized civil war.”
Carville described the Democrats as “Constipated. Leaderless. Confused. A cracked-out clown car. Divided.”
Republicans and especially American gun owners cannot allow that to cultivate apathy in 2026. If Democrats retake control on Capitol Hill, they will almost certainly impeach Donald Trump. They will prevent passage of any pro-gun rights legislation and will likely derail any pro-2A federal court nominations.
This is why grassroots gun rights activists will need to up their game to turn out the November 2026 vote.
