Hey NFL Players – We Don’t Agree With Your Antics. Does That Make Us Racist?

September 23, 2017 By Conn Williamson

The simple answer, according to the urban dictionary of progressives and communists, is an emphatic, “Yes!”

The National Football League is a prime example of a hypocritical and obsessive compulsive entity which enforces a strict dress and uniform code, yet has the propensity to ignore defiant individual behavior that can be construed as disturbingly unpatriotic.

As a result of the obvious irregularities in policy, television ratings are suffering as the chasm between the average fan and the brazen in-your-face public lifestyle of athletes explodes with the girth of a galaxy.

The choice of certain players to breach the world of politics and assume the awkward role as disingenuous social justice warriors swimming in millions of dollars, continues to bewilder, frustrate, and alienate the fan base. This is where the bold perspective of Charles Barkley is sorely needed.

On Friday, months of pent up angst finally reached the steps of the White House, as Trump echoed the sentiment of legions of fans in proclaiming, “Shut up and play the game!”

Fox News reports that remarks from the President in a speech in Huntsville, Alabama, pointedly admonished the recent actions of certain NFL players to kneel or be absent during the National Anthem and included his trademark, “He’s fired!”  Of course, Trump’s comments went viral and set off a firestorm of backlash from honorary social apologists and the obligatory use of the the terms “divisive” and “rhetoric”. What critics of the President and supporters of the league fail to address in the latest maelstrom of whining and finger pointing, is the blatant failure by the NFL to squander a golden opportunity to enhance goodwill.

Last year, in the aftermath of the Dallas police ambush, where three officers were tragically assassinated by a gunmen, owner of the Cowboys Jerry Jones and Jason Witten proposed the idea of wearing emblems on uniforms in support of the men and women of law enforcement for a preseason game. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell swiftly rebuked the gesture, citing the league’s strict uniform policy as the main deterrent.

Goodell’s bewildering decision to not allow a positive display towards police officers in a polarizing climate of hate and disdain resulted in a sharp decline in viewership numbers. Maybe, this is the commissioner’s tawdry response to gain street cred with the likes of Richard Sherman and Michael Bennett.

The reasonable person has to question just where exactly the logic is in putting the kibosh on supporting cops, while allowing employees to openly and publicly defy the flag for personal politics. Have we finally reached the terminus where a minority does not have to adhere to the standards of the workplace, simply because of a heaping pile of liberal guilt? Unfortunately, the victim in this bizarre cultural phenomenon is the average person who desperately attempts to swim against the incessant current of double standards and false equivalencies.

So be careful the next time there is any sort of doubt when questioning why someone who has a perfected a minor skill and makes millions of dollars, can bring the act of public shaming and disgrace inside a stadium where seats go for $300 hard earned dollars. This is a complete slap in the face to anyone who invests time and money in what is supposed to be entertainment and an escape from reality.
