Gun Rights Group Unloads on Biden for Afghanistan Weapons Loss

The grassroots Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is taking Joe Biden to task over what it calls the “ultimate hypocrisy” on gun policy, having just allowed the Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan seize “thousands of weapons and billions of dollars of equipment” while laboring here at home to disarm American citizens.

“Tens of thousands of American small arms and ammunition just fell into the hands of the Taliban regime, which could use those weapons against us and our allies,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “And adding insult to injury—considering Biden’s total commitment to extremist gun control here in the U.S.—this ‘transfer of arms’ didn’t involve a single background check.”

Gottlieb blasted Biden in a prepared statement Friday in which he referred to the president’s admission during a recent CNN Townhall that he was “continuing to push to eliminate the sale of” semiautomatic modern sporting rifles and 9mm pistols.

The gun rights leader drew what he called an “alarming parallel” between what is now happening in Kabul and what the administration and its allies on Capitol Hill have advocated.

“One of the first things Joe Biden did after taking office was push his gun ban agenda,” Gottlieb said. “One of the first things the Taliban did after taking Kabul was go door-to-door, seizing firearms. Biden says banning so-called ‘assault weapons’ and 9mm pistols will make the country safer. The Taliban is telling people they don’t need guns because they are safe. Those are some very alarming parallels.”

Gottlieb said the situation in Afghanistan “clearly underscores the importance of the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms enshrined in our U.S. constitution.”

“The Afghan people will be defenseless once they are disarmed,” he observed. “The Founding Fathers made sure that could never happen here, so it is appalling that we now have an administration so keenly interested in banning the very types of firearms Afghani citizens will be begging for to resist the tyranny that is returning to their country.”

By no small coincidence, CCRKBA just launched a new 60-second message alerting gun owners across the country about gun control efforts of the Biden-Harris administration. This hard-hitting message will be seen on several national cable networks.

“Biden’s horrendous miscalculation in Afghanistan could have sweeping consequences,” Gottlieb stated. “Rather than worry about eroding our gun rights, he should worry about the military arsenal he allowed to be captured by an army of anti-American insurrectionists who are prone to violence.”

He suggested that if Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris or their anti-gun allies want to see what gun control looks like, “they can go to Kabul for a close look.”

The president is under withering criticism over Afghanistan. In an Op-Ed published at Fox News, Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) declared, “Since taking office, Biden has repeatedly given the world’s dictators a free pass while placing the United States in positions of incredible vulnerability. That is why Biden’s Afghanistan meltdown is so dangerous. His abject failure to execute a strategic withdrawal of American forces from Afghanistan has told our enemies that the U.S. under President Biden will not stand up for itself, sending a signal to our allies like Israel, Japan, Taiwan, Australia, and South Korea that we will leave them out to dry.”

Friday morning, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) appeared on “Fox & Friends” to suggest there may be grounds for impeachment.

“If we leave any Americans behind—if we leave thousands of those Afghans who fought along our side behind bravely—Joe Biden deserves to be impeached for a higher crime and misdemeanor of dereliction of duty,” Graham said.

Gottlieb summed up the gravity—and the irony—of the Afghanistan debacle.

“What’s happening now in Afghanistan is both a tragedy and a travesty,” he stated. “While Joe Biden tells a Townhall audience he would ban the sale of modern sporting rifles and 9mm pistols to American citizens, his poor judgment has made a gift of firearms and ammunition that are far more lethal than what he is trying to ban in this country. This is a fiasco of monumental proportions and Joe Biden owns it.”
