Journalist Cecilio Pineda Birto Murdered By Mexican Cartel?
While fictional authors in the North America and Europe can generally avoid the possibility of a cold-blooded assassination attempt, there exists a dwindling number of old-school idealists, whose stubborn intolerance for corruption and the pursuit of absolute truth in the face incessant danger, cancels out any inclination of a long and happy life.
The Daily Beast reports that Cecilio Pineda Birto, the latest crusader for justice under the ominous shadow cast by the Cartel into all facets of life in Mexico, was murdered in cold blood as he awaited the finishing touches of his vehicle at a Mexican car wash in the state of Guerrero. Birto, not only took on the henchman and drug lords head on, but the journalist would also broadcast content via livestream to numerous global followers.
Of course the dozens of witnesses to Birto’s sudden demise were never questioned by law enforcement officials, in part due to the influence of the Cartel in shaping investigations and the riveting ability of the organization to make people disappear permanently in a slow and painful fashion.
While the heroic efforts of Birto will forever be remembered, the reality still exists that the ingrained corruption of Mexico’s policies, from paid eyes and ears at the lowest levels of society, to the office of the President, is perpetually tainted and a very real threat influencing policy in the US.
