According to an ABC News report published on Thursday night, President Donald Trump plans to pardon Scooter Libby, who is the former chief of staff to former Vice President Dick Cheney.
According to ijr.com:
Multiple sources confirmed to ABC News that Trump has already signed off on the decision to pardon Scooter Libby and it has been something he has been considering doing for months.
In 2007, Libby was convicted of lying to the FBI as well as obstruction of justice during the investigation into former covert CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity being leaked. Many people came forward and said that Libby had leaked the information to them after he publicly denied being the leaker.
Former President George Bush did not pardon Libby, but instead commuted his 30-month prison sentence.
The White House stated there there have been no talks of pardoning Libby “at this time.”
Libby could join Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Trump’s list of controversial pardons. Arpaio had been found guilty of racially profiling Latinos and was convicted after disobeying a federal judge’s order to cease detaining individuals he suspected were in the United States illegally.”
