VIDEO: Rubio Voted to Ban Guns in Miami

Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio has taken great pains to paint himself in bold colors as the only “conservative” who can take on Hillary Clinton in the general election. According to his campaign, with his youthful Hispanic good looks and oratorial skills, he will apparently do an end-run around the aging former secretary of state and her less than enthused voter base to take the White House in 2016.

There are two fatal flaws in his argument , however. The Florida senator is neither conservative, nor can he inspire a passionate base of disenfranchised voters to turn out in record numbers to cast a ballot for him in the general election.

Case in point: a new video has emerged that shows Rubio voted to “ban guns from city parks” while he served as a commissioner in West Miami City in 1999.

The issue has been hotly contested recently as rival GOP candidate Ted Cruz accused Rubio of voting in favor of the gun control measure before the all-important Super Tuesday primaries.

According to Breitbart, on Feb. 28, Texas Tribune reporter Patrick Svitek Tweeted that the Rubio campaign described Cruz’s allegation as a lie, saying:

“Senator Cruz is getting increasingly desperate and giving up on trying to tell voters the truth. Marco is proud of his strong support for and record of standing up for the Second Amendment and no amount of Cruz lies can change that.”

Minutes from the March 3, 1999 “Regular Commission Meeting” demonstrated that Rubio was one of four commissioners present when the firearms ban was discussed and a subsequent unanimous vote in favor of the gun control measure was passed without comment from Rubio.

A video of the same meeting has emerged which shows Rubio uttering not a peep in defense of Americans’ right to bear arms.
