While the pervading color for Washington state is blue, due to the internecine created by silly politicians, the state of the wine robust local wine industry can argue that the dominating tint should be carbernet or pinot noir. As California is the popular stereotype as the wine haven of the country, the quality of grapes grown in the Yakima Valley and Columbia River Gorge, coupled with a frenetic decade in growth of infrastructure has literally put Washington vineyards and winemakers on the international stage.
In this first of hopefully many reviews on Liberty Park Press, I will start appropriately enough with a Washington wine. Oh, by the way, I nearly forgot to introduce myself. As a part-time worker in the wine industry and a full-time school teacher, my relationship with different vintages of wine has been developed as a direct result between enjoying a much needed break from the classroom with a nice glass of wine. I am extremely passionate about the grapes and the people who are responsible for all facets in the production of a good bottle. I believe that the hyper-local aspects of vineyards equates to a sustainable and healthy business model that provides jobs and supports communities. It is my sincere hope that I can share my knowledge of and passion for wine with you and meet some new friends along the way.

Social networking may be the new playground, but the idea of the real life bully is alive and well. (I have sent numerous offenders to the principal’s office over the years). Hip winemaker Chris Gorman has created a Cabernet Sauvignon that of course is robust, bold, edgy and includes famous quotes engraved into the label about anti-bullying. In Gorman’s quaint tasting room located in Woodinville, Washington, the mecca for wineries and located just outside of Seattle, the accents of rock and paraphernalia from famous bands such as AC/DC and Rush, highlight the decor.
The Bully is simple brilliance in lacking any subtle nuances. It is a hardcore Carbernet with accents of berries and surprisingly cocoa. There is not much more to say, nor there should be. It does the job without going over the top, is well worth the retail price and be careful not to turn into stone cold terror after two or three glasses. While Gorman produced 650 cases of the Bully, get it before the summer barbecue season officially begins as the pairing with a thick juicy steak is a must-do.
