A new Rasmussen survey says 22 percent of “Americans who have a gun in their home added one since the Black Lives Matter anti-police protests began in late May and feel safer because they’ve done so.”
The survey also revealed that “Among those who have added a gun in the last four months, however, 90% feel more safe.”
In a separate survey, Rasmussen also found “Blacks worry most that these attacks will make their communities less safe.”
According to Rasmussen, 43 percent of American adults say they or someone living in their household owns a gun. The fact that so many people have added a gun to their home comes as no surprise at all to the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
“Why should this surprise anybody,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb wondered. “We’ve been treated to months of images on the nightly news showing cities under siege, businesses being vandalized, looted and even burned. People have been killed, more have been injured including scores of police officers, and all we hear from protesters are demands for cuts to police departments, while radical city councils work overtime to appease the mob.”
Rasmussen’s survey was conducted with 1,000 American adults Oct. 4-5 with a margin of sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points.
The firm noted that 68 percent of likely voters “are concerned that deadly attacks on the police will lead to a shortage of police officers and reduce public safety where they live, with 44% who are Very Concerned.”
This appears to be one motivation for buying guns. The National Shooting Sports Foundation earlier estimated at least 5 million new gun owners are out there, having purchased firearms for the first time. Anecdotal reports from various gun dealers indicate that as many as 40 to 50 percent of their customers over the past few months have been first-timers.
“Perhaps the most important revelation in this survey,” said Gottlieb, “is that 39 percent of Democrats own guns, which means Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are alienating a huge bloc of potential voters with their extremist gun control agenda less than a month before the November election.”
None of this can be good news to the gun prohibition lobby and their cronies in Congress. As noted by Gottlieb, “Those Americans bought guns to protect their families and homes while Biden, Harris and other far left Democrats have publicly supported protesters and their demands to defund police departments across the country.
“Who in their right mind wouldn’t take steps to make their home and family safer,” he continued. “Yet Biden wants to make it harder for honest citizens to exercise their Second Amendment rights, and Harris is waiting in the wings with her own extremist agenda if Biden—should he win in November—is unable to finish his term.”
Back on Aug. 10, Rasmussen released the results of an alarming survey that found 59 percent of likely voters “believe it’s likely Biden’s running mate will be president before the end of Biden’s four-year term if he wins this fall, with 39% who say it’s Very Likely.”
There has been some concern Biden is merely a “place holder” candidate who would make room soon after taking office for Harris to become the first female president, a feather Democrats want in their political cap. Her gun control agenda is considered “extremist” by Second Amendment advocates.
