The Power Of Social Media And The Decline Of News Aggregates

April 24, 2023 By Conn Williamson

Within the everchanging ecosystem of the digital hierarchy, the perpetually drifting electronic continental plates conducive to the research acumen of geologists, rather than the tawdry skillset of professional marketers, decades are centuries, and hours are months.

While F***book and Twitter constantly recalibrate their algorithms for the purpose of revenue and fostering a reverse double sting political bias, content purveyors born in the dawn of the viral and the trending are now enduring the wrath of fabricated attrition. The magical and lucrative formulas designed to harvest hundreds of millions of likes in a tiny window of time are obsolete, which leads to the logical conclusion that the business model of promoting the trivial and superficial is officially broken.

With the powers that be at internet engagement behemoth Buzzfeed announcing that the corporation will mothball its news department, the Information age claims yet another victim in the volatile dreamland of pixels, devices and staggering flow of data that industry leaders fail to admit the impact on climate emanating from the massive array of servers and heat generated. The shimmering Las Vegas gaudy and intrusive electronic billboards of processing power and storage do not go dark, and society restless to the subconscious and intrusive onslaught will never again enjoy a peaceful night of sleep.

As fact-checking has emerged as a viable career due to the unsubstantiated magnitude of rumors packaged as fact, and fact branded as conjecture (depending on the ideology of the poster) Buzzfeed and other organizations that operate news aggregates are subject to scrutiny, which does not always result in accountability or a classic journalistic correction clarifying a blatant mistake. Earlier this year, the corporation famous for its online quizzes, launched an AI project author bot articles in hopes of cutting overhead costs and streamlining operations, however the campaign endured complications, and along with the unfavorable social networking dynamics, led to a significant decrease in traffic and influence. Even within the context of innovative machine learning filed “news” articles, propaganda is still propaganda. Another major content portal, CNET, attempted to capture the elusive concept of effective sentient contributors with software for brains, but an appalling figure of 41 out 77 published posts contained errors that would not have averted human gatekeepers in a reprehensible metaphor to a self-driving vehicle mistaking an urban sidewalk teeming with pedestrians for a vacant parking spot.

While the average attention span dwindles to a level of imperception worthy of a college rave populated by introverts, as the traditional sexes and 45 various recognized pronouns stay segregated on opposite sides on the trancefloor, the appetite for abbreviation and the subsequent ambiguity is only enhanced. The fluidic dynamics of social media and the dinosaurs of the Buzzfeed’s of the world facing extinction only coax the feeding frenzy. On a level of subversion and the will to control a population, simplicity mired in wonderment is the opiate that influences the nefarious trajectory of cultural threatened by the inclusion of totalitarianism, a phenomenon that has already afflicted much of the former Northern European superpowers, now cowering to the will of the political correct movement and caving to special interests.

At one point in the historical timeline, embracing critical thinking and propagating intellect was the cornerstone for constructing the modern nation state where an abundance of free will drove the vision of fundamental freedoms. However, the contemporary optics drive convoluting forces counteracting the fostering of intellect, and gullible citizens have become willing tools and archetypes for restrictive policy, a banal and underwhelming fate of a once fervent and innovative think tank overrun by the degradative forces of big tech and the overreach of bureaucracy.

As Moore’s law fast approaches and platforms such as Turing averting ChatGPT take control of content, the war is already over before it has begun.
