NY Mayoral Lighting Rod Mamdani a Career Anti-Gunner

July 1, 2025 By Dave Workman

When New York mayoral candidate, and media lightning rod, Zohran Kwame Mamdani was representing New York’s 36th District as a Democrat in the State Assembly, he consistently voted against the interests of Empire State gun owners.

His voting record is available online at VoteSmart.org, which shows he was rated “0%” by the National Rifle Association in 2024. As far back as 2021, he supported anti-gun legislation, including a measure to allow lawsuits to be filed against firearms manufacturers, despite the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act.

So, when an image of Mamdani, standing next to a smiling David Hogg, who was recently booted as vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee for wanting to spend millions of dollars in efforts to primary incumbent Democrats and replace them with younger activists, it’s enough to get attention. Hogg is a hardcore gun control advocate.

Mamdani is being called “socialist” or “communist,” and he has expressed ideas about “wealth distribution” which should alarm every investor and venture capitalist, especially in New York City, the epicenter of the American economy.

But when he targets guns and the Second Amendment, as he stated in a post on social media back on May 24, 2022 that “We need to ban all guns,” gun owners across the landscape need to pay attention.

Outkick.com noted in a report, “New York City’s likely next mayor wants to take your guns away.”

Replies to his suggestion about banning guns were almost all negative, some of them laced with vulgarities.

The Outkick article also notes Mamdani is “a heavy favorite to cruise past current Mayor Eric Adams and anyone else running in the general election.” The media so far seems to already be casting him as the next Big Apple mayor.

Mamdani calls himself a “Democratic Socialist.” He has been busy making the rounds of news talk programs. He’s energetic, grabs the spotlight wherever he goes, and he is not shy about talking to reporters. He is “happening,” and he is making the most of it.

Hogg is quoted by The Hill declaring on social media “It’s gonna be a fun next couple years.”

The Hill article notes that Hogg’s group, “Leaders We Deserve,” has endorsed Mamdani, prior to the primary which put him in the lead.

In a conversation with radio host Bill Cunningham Sunday evening. Dr. John Lott, head of the Crime Prevention Research Center, reminded the audience that everywhere gun bans were enacted, the violent crime rates have gone up.

“If you primarily disarm law-abiding citizens, you make it easier for criminals to go and commit crimes,” Lott stated.

If Mamdani, who was born in Kampala, Uganda and came to the U.S. as a child with his family, becomes the next New York mayor, he may quickly learn that banning guns will not prevent criminals from having them.
