New poll results from different sources show a beleaguered Joe Biden being battered by the numbers, and a separate survey suggests his policies may drag a lot of Democrats down at the Nov. 8 midterms.
Rasmussen Reports revealed Monday only 19 percent of likely voters think the country is on the right track, while a staggering 76 percent believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction. A year ago at this time, 42 percent said the U.S. was heading in the right direction, and 52 percent believed the country was going in the wrong direction.
Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows Biden with a 37 percent job approval, while 61 percent disapprove of his performance. But the numbers get even worse when one looks at the disparity between those who “strongly approve” (16%) and those who “strongly disapprove” (48%) of his job performance. That’s a 3-to-1 difference, and it’s not the only bad news as summer continues. As of this poll, his Presidential Approval Index rating is a devastating –32.
The New York Times is reporting a new survey showing a whopping 64 percent of Democrat voters “saying they would prefer a new standard-bearer in the 2024 presidential campaign.” The New York Times/Sienna College survey shows “voters nationwide have soured on his leadership, giving him a meager 33 percent job-approval rating.”
With numbers worse than the Rasmussen survey, the NYTimes/Sienna poll shows “Only 13 percent of American voters said the nation was on the right track — the lowest point in Times polling since the depths of the financial crisis more than a decade ago.” This goes beyond calamity and enters the realm of political disaster.
The Hill, discussing the NYT/Sienna poll, noted, “When asked why they would support a new candidate, 33 percent of Democrats cited age as their main reason, 32 percent said job performance, 12 percent said they will prefer someone new and 10 percent said Biden is not progressive enough.”
And there is something equally troubling for Democrats. The Hill also noted 44 percent of survey respondents would vote for Biden “if the 2024 presidential election were held today,” but a startling 41 percent—virtually a dead heat in politics—would vote for former President Donald Trump “if he is a 2024 presidential candidate.”
The final blow to Democrats and their president came from another Rasmussen poll showing Republicans with an eight-point lead as the midterms are 123 days away. This spread has been bouncing up and down lately, but the new numbers show Republicans have increased their lead by three points, noting the “GOP has led the Generic Congressional Ballot all year.”
