In the latest narrative of journalistic fate in the pursuit of conjecture over the obligation to pursue fact, the transgender movement in the world of athletics targeting women’s sports has claimed another victim in a script that rivals an edgy streaming entertainment series on an app of one’s choice.
This comes in the turbulent wake of a reporter being denied publishing an opinion piece challenging men being allowed to compete against female athletes on the field, on the court and in the swimming pool.
Cue the Pet Shop Boys anthem of the countercultural.
On the opposite side of Rosie O’Donnell’s much-maligned critique of modern culture broadcast as a guest host for Jimmy Kimmel on what has become the despicable platform late night television, a veteran journalist has decided to forfeit his position as a print and digital influencer, at least for the time being. In doing so he effectively avoided a cruel fate of acting as a slave to an ideological carnival of volatility orchestrated by special interests and the exclusivity perpetuated by the militantly intellectualized and triggered minority attempting to seize control of the news cycle. Let the backlash commence for those who care.
As the slaughterhouse of the visceral activism remains trending through men invading women’s sports, a highly respected columnist decided to hang up his cleats and retreat into the abyss or irrelevance. Reports that Seattle Times sportswriter Matt Calkins has stepped down after editors at the heavily biased Liberal rag of a newspaper rejected to print and electronically distribute and release his opinion piece based on the premise that males should not be permitted to tarnish the athletic pursuits of females in participating in athletic competitions against women (Think the WNBA that is more akin to the WWE than the legendary Hulk Hogan could imagine). The announcement by Calkins has sparked a widespread backlash against the mainstream media that involves questions of integrity and lack of basic ethics that continue to proliferate throughout the newsrooms in the nation and what has surpassed the boundaries of a phenomenon. Transgender has become the not so new “T” word and the counterpoint is nearly extinct.
While extremism is being normalized and the trajectory of the fair and balanced has deviated to the bizarre hinterlands of obscurity, especially within the confusing infuriating vortex of the press, ignorance and indifference are prevalent within an ecosystem of elitism and dreams broken and mended to be unleashed by propaganda.
As it is disheartening that print media has reached the twilight of a lifetime, ancient and a witness to countless data and solar cycles and eras, the idea of news is on an unavoidable collision course with cultural obscurity as all platforms of information delivery are corrupt due to the prevalence of government unchecked and special interests.
The infantile stages of the Information Age continue to claim storytellers as victims and elevates societal engineers to the frontlines of formulated chaos converging into the pathway or superhighway of reason.
