‘Jaw-dropping’: N.Y. Post Writer Rips Obama For Gun Remark

The New York Post’s John Podhoretz just ripped President Barack Obama’s departure from reality during his Tuesday oratory at the memorial service for five fallen police officers for asserting that it was easier “for a poor kid in a struggling neighborhood to get a Glock than a book.”

Podhoretz called the assertion “jaw-dropping.” And he didn’t stop there with the criticism.

“That’s not presidential,” he wrote. “That’s Bill Maher, or Trevor Noah.”

The entire speech may be viewed here.

After praising the president for his performance during the first 15 minutes of his speech, the columnist then declared that Obama ruined the whole thing by talking too long and “repeating himself endlessly, and broadening his specific focus to a more general preachment…”

Saving the worst for last, Podhoretz—who was a speechwriter for Ronald Reagan—said that in the end, Obama “was a national healer who became a crashing bore.”

Podhoretz is not the only one criticizing Obama for his remarks about guns. Others have observed that the anti-gun president simply could not resist the opportunity to politicize his eulogy. The Daily Mail noted in its coverage that social media lit up over his comment about guns, which simply lack credulity

“We flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than to get his hands on a computer,” the president pontificated.

It is only “easy” for a teenager to buy a handgun if they buy it from an illegal source. Teens can’t just stroll into a gun store and legally buy handguns from licensed retailers, and Obama knows it. If anyone is “flooding” communities with guns, it’s gangs, not society, not the firearms industry and certainly not law-abiding citizens, critics quickly argued.

Now, if Obama had acknowledged that teenagers seem to have no trouble getting guns by stealing them, or buying them from someone else who stole them, he might have gotten away with it. Witness the Baton Rouge pawn shop theft story that’s making the rounds today because of the reported motive behind that theft. It was “part of a larger conspiracy to target law enforcement officers amid protests over the fatal shooting of an African-American man by police.”

Four crooks, including a 13-year-old, are suspected of breaking into the pawn shop last Saturday morning and grabbing eight handguns, according to Fox News.

But Obama didn’t go there. He won’t go there. He’s on a self-launched mission to erode the Second Amendment, and he let that get in the way Tuesday in Dallas, say critics.
