The angry Left should resort to harassment of public officials, especially Republicans, in an effort to press their agenda, according to the author of a piece in the Huffington Post, a prominent voice for liberal politics and philosophy.
Writing in the HuffPo last week, Michelangelo Signorile spelled out what amounts to a call for harassment of elected officials:
“It’s time to move beyond polite protests within specified boundaries. It’s time to escalate the expression of our outrage and our anger in a massive way.
“Starting today and from here on, no elected official ― certainly those in the GOP defending and supporting Trump on a variety of issues, for example ― should be able to sit down for a nice, quiet lunch or dinner in a Washington, DC eatery or even in their own homes. They should be hounded by protestors everywhere, especially in public ― in restaurants, in shopping centers, in their districts, and yes, on the public property outside their homes and apartments, in Washington and back in their home states.”
Perhaps by no coincidence, The Daily Caller reported Sunday about an incident involving an attempt to run a Tennessee congressman off the road and another case in North Dakota, where a man reportedly got physical with Rep. Kevin Cramer and was subsequently “escorted” out of a town hall meeting by local police.
Fox News on Monday discussed Kara McCullough, who had the audacity to suggest that affordable health care for all U.S. citizens is a privilege during a Q&A as part of the Miss USA pageant.
McCullough also transposed the word “feminism” to “equalism.” As a result, people took to social media to criticize her.
Conservatives are starting to wonder where the activist Left gets the impression that in-you-face behavior is acceptable. While peaceful protest is an American tradition, harassment and assault are crimes.
Underscoring the increasing tension is a situation in Seattle – a decidedly far Left city – where liberals are expressing their anger in the Seattle Times over a report that the Sinclair Broadcast Group, which now owns KOMO, the local ABC affiliate, allegedly insists that the station’s news department include some allegedly conservative-oriented reports in its news broadcasts. The Seattle Times and New York Times detailed the controversy, which by Tuesday morning had garnered more than 500 reader comments.
The impression is that the Left is not only thin-skinned, it wants to control the news and it will not tolerate views with which it disagrees.
Interestingly, while a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis has been removed in New Orleans, and other Confederate monuments have been taken down elsewhere in the South, there is today a statue of communist revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Lenin (Ulyanov) in Seattle’s Fremont neighborhood.
