The Bad News: No New Conservative SCOTUS Justices for Years

In the wake of Tuesday’s Democrat trouncing of Republicans across the country, outgoing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis—who is already being looked at as a possible presidential contender in 2028—said it might take several years before another conservative justice like Samuel Alito or Clarence Thomas could be confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

DeSantis offered the gloomy forecast on ‘X’ in which he observed, “Assuming Republicans lose the seats where prediction markets have the Democrats at 90+% to win, that would produce 55 Democrat Senate seats. Chance of confirming a worthy successor to Justice Thomas and/or Alito during President Trump’s term: Zero. Chance of confirming a worthy successor during a hypothetical GOP admin 2029-2033: probably zero (GOP won’t be able to recapture enough seats in 28).”

Reactions to his remarks pointed fingers at Sen. John Thune (R-SD), the Senate Majority Leader, for not passing the controversial SAVE Act. Others blame non-voters who sat out the election. One man wrote in response to DeSantis, “Dems didn’t even have to cheat. There were enough spineless and lazy republicans who refused to get out and vote. Now the country is on the fast track to socialism anthem communism.”

However, one national grassroots gun rights organization is predicting a spike in gun and ammunition sales in anticipation of the Democrat takeover on Capitol Hill.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms issued a statement to the media Wednesday declaring, “Tuesday’s troubling national and state election results, putting anti-gun Democrats in charge of Congress and some governors’ offices and state legislatures come January, will likely set off a rush of buyers to gun shops and sporting goods stores between now and then as people prepare for new assaults on the Second Amendment.”

CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb

It is a pattern seen before when Democrats were in control and pushed all sorts of gun control legislation.

“We may be about to witness a surge in gun buying not seen since 2020,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “We also anticipate a flood of new, anti-Second Amendment legislation designed to further restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens, especially in states with legislatures controlled by Democrats, and from Congress. The gun prohibition lobby is probably already salivating over various schemes to ratchet down on gun owners, to get around a string of recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings which have affirmed the individual right to keep and bear arms.”

He also predicted a membership surge for CCRKBA and other gun rights groups.

“One other phenomenon we look for is a sharp rise in memberships and support, not just to at the Citizens Committee, but other gun rights organizations,” Gottlieb said. “American gun owners traditionally rally around national groups such as the CCRKBA and our sister organization, the Second Amendment Foundation, because they know we will be on the front lines, fighting in the trenches, to defend our constitutionally-protected, fundamental rights from the attacks we see coming just over the political horizon.

“Watch the gun prohibition movement to once again be unintentionally responsible for surging gun and ammunition sales,” he predicted, “and for renewed and energized support for groups fighting to defend the American heritage and Bill of Rights.”
