When the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms on Wednesday predicted this week’s “troubling national and state election results” would result in a spike in gun and ammunition sales before Democrats take over Congress in January, it ignited a nationwide media reaction.
News agencies from Alaska to the Carolinas picked up and even expanded on the initial announcement.
“We may be about to witness a surge in gun buying not seen since 2020,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb in the original media release. “We also anticipate a flood of new, anti-Second Amendment legislation designed to further restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens, especially in states with legislatures controlled by Democrats, and from Congress. The gun prohibition lobby is probably already salivating over various schemes to ratchet down on gun owners, to get around a string of recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings which have affirmed the individual right to keep and bear arms.”
According to Carolina Coast Online, which interviewed Gottlieb Thursday, gun sales are already trending upward, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigations’ National Instant Check System (NICS) data released earlier in the week. As noted by Carolina Coast Online, figures show October logged more than 2.2 million NICS background checks across the country, up from 2 million in September. October was also the third highest month of 2026 for background checks so far.
“You see gun sales go through the roof and that’s what we’re already seeing,” Gottlieb told the publication. “In the couple of weeks leading up to the election, people, knowing and thinking that, you know, things were gonna flip, gun sales had a big spike and we’re seeing that continuation spike yesterday, today, and I think we’re gonna see it for months to come now.
“I think you’re gonna see gun owners are going out and buying, you know, more firearms,” he added. “They’re gonna be worried about restrictions on their right to purchase those firearms,” Gottlieb said. “And you’re gonna see a lot of new people come into it as well, where ‘hey, you know, I don’t own one now, but now it looks scary that I might not be able to, so I’m gonna go try and get it now.’”
As earlier reported by TGM, some Democrats are already making noise about new or renewed gun control actions. Reports Thursday and today are seeing how quickly leading Democrats at the state and federal level are chomping at the gun control bit.
“One other phenomenon we look for is a sharp rise in memberships and support, not just to at the Citizens Committee, but other gun rights organizations,” Gottlieb said. “American gun owners traditionally rally around national groups such as the CCRKBA and our sister organization, the Second Amendment Foundation, because they know we will be on the front lines, fighting in the trenches, to defend our constitutionally-protected, fundamental rights from the attacks we see coming just over the political horizon.
“Watch the gun prohibition movement to once again be unintentionally responsible for surging gun and ammunition sales,” Gottlieb said, “and for renewed and energized support for groups fighting to defend the American heritage and Bill of Rights.”
