The Complexities Of Directing “The Bird” Towards The President

November 7, 2017 By Conn Williamson

A woman who was apparently exercising her First Amendment rights in grandeur fashion, instead opened up a mind numbing conundrum of debate and intrigue for society to feast upon.

Fox News reports that a cyclist, Juli Briskman, who flipped off the passing presidential motorcade in an immortalized and dubious moment captured forever in perpetual memory of social network last month, was terminated from her job, after identifying herself to the bosses, as the “Fastest Finger in Virginia Road Bandit. Here is where it gets fun begins, as the game includes a contracting firm, a impassioned bike rider, and the hypocrisy of true free speech in a world dictated by a complete absence of privacy and coupled with limitless stream of stringent private policy and legalities.

The firm Briskman worked for is a government contractor and allegedly has a rather strict, yet ambiguous code of conduct pertaining to employee involvement in the digital realm. After she confirmed her involvement in the incident, she was promptly fired. As the footage of Briskman’s gesture towards the Commander in Chief along a Virginia roadway miraculously does not show any specific distinction towards proof of identification, why she divulged her actions to the corporate brass and possible sanctions, remains a mystery.

No individual on American soil, especially the POTUS, is beyond public criticism that remains at a civil level and does not escalate into the territory of a threatening harm. An employee of a government contract agency has the Constitutional right to exercise a hand gesture of reproach towards the White House, but should be aware of the potential consequences faced in the workplace. The moral of this delicious narrative, is to always deny involvement in a potential damaging situation when the billions of eyes and ears of social networking actually fail to capture a total snapshot of reality.  Most of the time, a public stunt reaching viral status, will be the bridge to a certain 15 seconds of fame, like it or not.
