A British farmer contributing to the literally growing world chili market is claiming self-defense, well sort of, after a fiery creation made the pages of a medical journal, profiling a patient’s painful journey to the emergency room.
Fox New breaks down the saga of pepper grower, Salvatore Genovese, and his direct response to a 2016 incident of a man hospitalized after eating an entire appropriately named “Carolina Reaper” chili variety.
The events surrounding the emergency room visit and subsequent summary of specific physiological data, even made it into the pages of the British Medical Journal, a highly esteemed collection of published articles authored by health care professionals.
Genovese insists that the “Reaper” should not be consumed in raw form and is best served to provide an electric shock type “kick” to enhance flavor. Originally created in 2013 by legendary horticulturalist, “Smokin” Ed Currie (what a name!) the unbelievable pepper is now farmed globally.
For the sake of Darwinism, the “victim”, who made the questionable decision to eat the scorching vegetable during a chili eating contest in New York, could have benefited from some quick and easy research.
According to the wonders of the search engines, the “Carolina Reaper” is firmly entrenched in the top spot of the Guinness Book of World Record’s list of hottest peppers. Literally igniting at a magma-type level of 1,569,000 SHU on the Scoville heat index measuring the pungency of food.
“The pepper, or weapon is 600 times hotter than a Jalapeno and 20 times the burning in the mouth pain of its Habanero cousin.”
The pepper is so hot that the city of London is examining the use of the flaming hybrid chili as a possible tool of self-defense for residents, in deterring the current crime by knife epidemic.
The entire royalty of the chili growing community has supported Currie, Genevose, and the “Carolina Reaper” as a legitimate compliment for spicing up a meal and temporarily subduing dinner guests.
Of course the YouTube community features thousands of videos of knuckleheads forcing a whole pepper into their mouths.
