Chicago Mayor Accused of ‘Throwing Police Under Bus’—Fox News

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was accused of “throwing the police under the bus” by Alderman Raymond Lopez of the city’s 15th Ward in the aftermath of another shooting, this one taking the life of a 7-year-old girl who was sitting in in a drive-thru with her father at a McDonald’s.

According to the popular website Heyjackass.com, the Windy City has seen 171 fatal shootings so far this year as of Tuesday, out of 183 recorded homicides. Last year, Chicago’s body count was 792, which was a 53% hike above the figure in 2019, the website reported. Of those killings, 719 involved firearms.

In an interview with “Fox & Friends,” Lopez declared, “Well, you know, right now, the activists and everyone are protesting the police shooting of a 13-year-old gang recruit because that is the narrative that they want to project. They’re not interested in fighting for those truly innocent victims who are just trying to do with your child and so many other children are trying to do in my city and across the country. And I’m fighting for those children who just deserve a chance to grow up.

“They’re fighting for those causes that perpetuate that narrative that somehow police are bad, the government is awful, and that we need more money for more programs to do absolutely nothing,” he contended.

And about the mayor, Lopez asserted, “And we see it with the narrative that our mayor is playing time and again where she’s throwing the police under the bus and has yet to call out gangs in the city of Chicago.”

The child murdered Sunday afternoon was identified as Jaslyn Adams. Her father, 29-year-old Jontae adams, was injured in the shooting, Fox News reported.

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting the police believe the shooting was game-related. An unidentified witness said two people emerged from a nearby car and opened fire on the Adams car.

The newspaper said a shooting about three hours later may be connected to the Adams incident. In that shooting, a 33-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were shot while sitting in line at a Popeye’s drive-thru.

Last year, according to HeyJackass.com, 3,455 people were wounded with gunfire in Chicago. Yet, the gun prohibition lobby seems to avoid discussing the situation there.

So far this year, according to HeyJackass.com, 769 people have been wounded by gunfire in Chicago. The website estimates someone is wounded in the city every 2 hours and 47 minutes while homicides occur slightly more than 14 hours apart on the average.
