A new Rasmussen survey has some bad news for America’s news media.
According to Rasmussen, a recent national telephone and online survey revealed “34% of Likely U.S. Voters give the national news media a good or excellent rating in terms of the accuracy and fairness of their reporting, while 43% rate the media as doing a poor job in terms of accuracy and fairness.”
The report from Rasmussen quoted Elon Musk stating the “legacy” media has “Zero” credibility, and 56 percent of survey respondents agreed. Of those, 33 percent “strongly agreed.” Another r27 percent disagree with the statement, including 10 percent who “strongly disagree.”
Rasmussen surveyed 1,090 likely voters April 14-16. The results have a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.
The data shows 42 percent believe most news media organizations are biased in favor of Democrats, which is down from 50 percent in October 2024.
Contrast that with only 23 percent saying the news media is biased in favor of Republicans. Only 22 percent believe the news media are “pretty much objective and neutral.”
Breaking things down along political lines, 63 percent of Republicans think most of the news media organizations are biased in favor of Democrats, a belief which is shared by 25 percent of Democrats and 38 percent of Independents.
Meanwhile, 47 percent of Democrats think the national news media does a “good or excellent job in terms of accuracy and fairness,” while only 28 percent of Republicans and 26 percent of Independents share that view.
Fifty-six percent of Republicans and 46 percent of Independents give the media a poor rating, while only 27 percent of Democrats do.
Meanwhile, a whopping 71 percent of Republicans, 53 percent of Independents and 46 percent of Democrats somewhat agree with the statement, “At this point, legacy media has zero credibility left.”
