Shock Rasmussen Poll: 54% of Dems Would Approve Replacing Biden

May 28, 2024 By Dave Workman

A new Rasmussen poll has some bad news for Joe Biden.

A stunning Rasmussen survey released Tuesday shows 54 percent of Democratic voters would approve of their party a different presidential candidate than Joe Biden, including 25 percent who would “strongly approve” of such a move prior to the November election.

Overall, according to Rasmussen, 49 percent of likely voters “would approve of Democrats finding another candidate to replace Biden before the election.”

The survey was conducted among 1,113 likely voters May 20-22. It has a sampling error of +/- 3 percentage points with a 95 percent level of confidence.

There has been speculation, particularly among some conservative pundits, that Biden will be replaced on the November ballot. Among the names so far floated as replacements are California Gov, Gavin Newsom, former First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Kamala Harris and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Hillary Clinton’s name also came up, while 46 percent of survey respondents say “none of the named Democrats would be a better candidate than Biden.”

The poll had some interesting numbers. Forty-three percent of Republicans and 50 percent of Independent voters would also approve of Democrats finding a replacement for Biden, Rasmussen reported.

Nineteen percent believe it is “very likely” Democrats will replace Biden for president, although 49 percent do not think this is very likely.

The Economist currently shows Donald Trump leading Biden by a single point, 46-45, but with five months remaining before the election, this could change back and forth. Five months in politics is an eternity and all kinds of things could happen.

A poll at Five Thirty-Eight shows Trump in the lead 41.3 to 39.9 over Biden, with Robert F. Kennedy trailing badly at only 9.8 percent.

Forbes is reporting the latest Emerson College national survey has Trump leading Biden by two points (46-44%), while a Siena College survey found Biden up by nine points in New York and a whopping 21 points in California.

Other polls have Trump leading Biden by four points in some battleground states.

Meanwhile, Rasmussen’s Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that while 42 percent of likely voters approve of Biden’s job performance, only 23 percent actually “strongly approve” while 56 percent of the voters disapprove of his performance.

Of those, 45 percent “strongly disapprove” of Biden’s job performance.
