Liberal anti-gunners can’t stand the kind of positive example set by 19-year-old Ginny Thrasher, the American air rifle shooter who took first gold for the United States in the 10-meter competition in Rio.

According to the Los Angeles Times, she learned to shoot from her father. The family hunts. She took her first deer with a single shot on a hunting trek with her grandfather. How she described the hunting experience to the Washington Post back on July 6 is enough to make anti-gunners and anti-hunters cringe.

“They didn’t think I could kill a deer,” she reportedly told the WaPo. “It was just a big rush of adrenaline. Things were happening very fast and all of a sudden, my aim was good and it was an exciting feeling.”

Now with the gold, Thrasher provides an example for other American youth to admire, upsetting Du Li of China, with a new Olympic record of 208.0 against Di’s 207.0.

Reacting to the story in the Seattle Times, a reader on Sunday sneered, “Hopefully Thrasher believes guns should only be used for Olympic competitions.”

Shooting the 10-meter event with an air rifle is no small accomplishment. Thrasher was up against the best, as noted by USA Today. In addition to Du, her competitors included Serbian Andrea Arsovi, who was ranked No. 1 in the world. There was also Yi Siling of China, who took the gold in 2012 in London. Yi finished Saturday with the bronze.

Thrasher was quoted by USA Today explaining that she was focused on “just shooting the best that I could.” She did.

Olympia resident Dan Lowe was scheduled to compete in today’s 10m air rifle event, according to the Seattle Times. This 23-year-old with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning.

In addition to today’s air rifle event, he is scheduled to compete in the 3-position rifle event on Aug. 14.
