Thunder And Lightning: The 2016 GRPC Tampa New Media Coverage

September 27, 2016 By Conn Williamson

As folks have hopefully arrived home to destinations nationwide and globally in the wake of this year’s conference, hope is once again justified that the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution will not wither away with the apparent inherent complacency of the forthcoming generations. The convenient event location (5 minutes from Tampa’s airport) and the accommodating staff at the Doubletree By Hilton Tampa Airport, provided a great venue for hosting the conference.

In the milieu set by a cavalcade of filtered sunshine, incessant humidity and the resounding grumble and light show of intermittent electric storms, the marathon of speakers and panels over the weekend provided a multi-faceted perspective on the full-gamete of issues facing responsible gun owners and the proactive efforts of individuals and groups to maintain a productive dialogue freely and exercising their rights.

As onset of technology has become part of the base framework of the conference, remote users were given the lightning fast capability of accessing the event around the world.  Digital and internet broadcasts were on full display with live internet streaming coverage and a podcast, specifically designated social network updates and an array of available multi-media platforms and content options. The Second Amendment Foundation officially launched The Constitution Network, a social media community dedicated to upholding the First and Second Amendments.  Attendees were invited to create a free account on the network and assist in initial beta testing efforts.  Traditional mediums also contributed to the overall reach of the event, including two radio teams, the involvement of a local radio station group, local television coverage and the attendance of multiple journalists, both internet and print.

It is with this vital combination of old and new technology that organizations and individuals will be afforded the opportunity in perpetually canvassing the various generations and ensuring that future conferences are well represented by passionate and sensible advocates and activists.  As innovation breeds flexibility, especially in the thorough distribution of the content of an event to the global audience, the importance of embracing the affordable and effective methods in sharing vital and relevant content remains a priority.  A barrage of targeted and innumerable lightning strikes was an apt metaphor for the presence of new technology at the 2016 Tampa GRPC.
