Though not as game changing as Chuck Yeager’s historic flight high above the California desert in 1947, where the deft test pilot with ice coursing through his veins broke through the sound barrier in the confines of the X-1 experimental aircraft, and even capped the monumental achievement with a barrel roll for show, authentic history is still being crafted in the brights lights and fleeting memories of the digital age, thanks to a Texas rifleman.
In a pure display of one-upmanship as a testament to a worthy battle between a pair of formidable gladiators, sharpshooter Bill Poor temporarily penciled his name into the record books with an astounding long range shot of pure accuracy and eclipsed the three mile mark in nailing his target. That’s right, three miles!
According to Dallasnews.com the verification of Poor’s shot made in January, will probably not reach the pages of the Guinness Book of World Records, as the almanac for a cavalcade of human achievements, does not recognize shots where scopes are used, but who really cares?
Looking at the accomplishment of Poor using a geographical reference, his astounding expansive brush with accuracy would qualify as the highest mountain in the lower 48 states, continental Europe minus Russia, and Australia. The projectile was in the air for an amazing 14 seconds. Allegedly the shot was made with .408 bullet.
While the three mile threshold has now officially been eclipsed, Poor cannot rest easy, as the previous world record holder, Charles Melton, is already planning to attempt to execute a 3.4 mile bullseye.
