The Retail Coronavirus Marketplace- How Amazon Is An Accessory To A Contagious Pathogen

February 8, 2020 By Conn Williamson

A tiny fragment of 59 football fields worth of Amazon warehouse operations.

Nestled in the solitude and comfort of a 3,500 square foot cabin with all the modern amenities under the majestic shadows of the Sawtooth mountains, a retired CEO samples a bourbon, while browsing the digital storefronts for the limitless selection of drones on the screen of the latest Faraday encrypted powerful desktop. The intersection between price point and convenience are unmatched on the vast expanses of the internet, even amidst the hundreds of miles of wilderness, as the looming behemoth of a nearly eloquent machine of retail perfection only means the demise of traditional retailers, and the introduction both exciting and harrowing scenarios. The present and future spectrum of issues created by the direct result of technology and innovation is challenge to fully grasp, and the nightmare may exist on the horizon within the blink of an eye.

The retiree luxuriating and connected to the electronic globe within the hinterlands of Idaho does not associate drone price wars with Wuhan, China and the epicenter of the Coronavirus outbreak. Nor he or any sane person should, as the vortex of the US potato producing bounty is 6,500 miles from the humid lowlands of central China, an uneventful itinerary for the modern adventurer with a connection flight from Boise to Seattle, next a Seattle to Shanghai direct, and a puddle jumper into the vortex of the current hell on earth. The digital consumer maintains complete autonomy in opting to remain in the snow covered hills, however the aerial vehicle products ultimately ordered from Amazon may indicate a completely alternative and chilling narrative. With the flexibility and financial posturing of a suitably fluidic corporation contracting a fleet of unofficial drivers set on attaining the inherent goal, the distance between life or death, or sickness and health just became relevant.

Drone accessories, cheap electronics, or sustainable household goods, the average American shopper enjoys the fruits of a booming market, and asks questions later. In the meantime, products manufactured in all regions of China are shipped within light seconds to all corners of the globe, which may or may not be tainted by a virus, and the populations of North America and Europe are left vulnerable to various hazardous afflictions thanks to instant gratification. A world in which a virus is proliferated through the methodology of unhindered shopping, and the ultimate demise of western society is an irony considering the context pertaining to the new economy transcends a reasonable set of standards.

While the ultra-efficient Ruth Goldberg delivery system activated by one swipe of the soft screen sets into motion a well-orchestrated series of events, ultimately leading to a third party courier arriving on the ex-CEO’s isolated mountain property with the virulent drone accessories arriving in less than a week from the central lowlands of China. Within an instant, the horrific pathogen has reached the core of the US without any prompting or diplomatic posturing, and a viable threat to the health of the entire nation just became real.

Much of society is so out of touch with the plausible ramifications of a centralized retail economy, that the consequences of such a heightened business relationship are realized too little, too late, as the tendrils of the dragon inhabiting continental Asia ultimately lead to the detriment of public safety is an informational interlude subject to the fake news purveyors of a struggling cable news channel scrapping for relevancy and staging fake incidents. $50 gift cards can buy a lot of stuff indirectly imported through a multifarious and ingrained network of buyers and sellers.

On a planet where the most vocal and uniformed strive for the implacable and insufferably unsustainable existence of a one world government, the abstract inclinations of contrived goodwill incredulously resonate, and a plague emanating through the modern system of consumerism is simply a microcosm of the arrogance and the unbridled will of a naïve mentality that struggles against the rigors of the centuries of progress and the eons of surviving with purpose. Somehow, the existence of bureaucracy in private business and in government has become an unlikely security blanket to idealists.

In other words, the political ideologies that are considered by individuals as world changing philosophies are the opposite of cutting edge, and a simple search engine research project should confirm the phrase, “been there, done that.” The audacity of Amazon to offer a wealth of merchant channels that are held unaccountable for business tactics and quality is an indictment on the Jeff Bezos empire, as well as intellectually lazy wave of consumers unwilling to verify the credential of vendors, or weigh the consequences of their actions.

WATCH:  Overlooking the obvious can have fatal consequences…

During the previous administration, manufacturing conglomerates were encouraged through ridiculous policy to relocate operations around the Pacific Rim, and the abject failure of Washington to negotiate effectively with Beijing, causing a major paradigm shift as to the flow of goods. Add to the maelstrom of incompetence the propensity of the Chinese to engage in corporate espionage and unethical reverse engineering procedures, and the major shelves of the Amazon business model are stocked with counterfeit inventory. With possible viral tainted products now circulating from Wuhan and surrounding areas, the subsequent trapdoor beckoning secondary infections has been blown wide open by the flawed components of a system that is not completely understood even by the creators, who are unable to control the detriment in the wake of unprecedented growth.

Society is not completely doomed, but this should be a wake up call that disease carriers are no longer to be required to go through immigration or health check points to gain entry into the US. After all, just because all the proverbial entrances, doors and windows are secured, does not mean that the forgotten ventilation shaft cannot harbor and provide access for fugitives of eternal terror. Within the digital economy of the information age, anything is possible.
