Consider Closing Your Twitter Account- Company Admits To Possible Exposure Of Sensitive Data

May 3, 2018 By Conn Williamson

When will we learn?

If Zuckerberg and the insatiable data collection gestapo over at the galactic advertising agency disguised as a social network is not enough, the adorable songbird supervising the destruction of the English language at the center for 280 characters or less just tweeted a gargantuan “Oops!”, complete with the obligatory Seinfeld-grade explanation point in a wry attempt to tidy up the mess in a nice gift wrapped package disaster of feathers hitting the blades of the proverbial fan.

Reuters reports that Twitter now faces the consequences of a tedious data controversy in potentially revealing the passwords of over 330 million users! (the exclamation point is merited in this case) The astounding and disturbing news reached the mainstream, after the social network advised hundreds of millions of account owners on a company blog to change their login credentials. Allegedly, a software bug on an internal computer system revealed an enormous amount of password data, as the automated cloaking mechanism failed in transforming letters into symbols and numbers for account protection, which is standard operating procedure in storing sensitive user data. The process known as hashing, (when working) adds an extra layer of security as passwords cannot simply be hacked or mined with traditional methods. The epic ineptitude and the inexcusable poor handling of data apparently lasted for a time period measured in months (gasp), before the irregularity in the code was discovered.

With F&^%book soon the endure the wrath of hell in pending legal sanctions, the boneheaded blunder by Twitter, now creates a formidable tandem of popular online communities setting a dubious precedent for the future of social networking. Ironically, both entities are aggressively pursuing a presence in the news business, even though basic security protocol is obviously lacking.

It is now on the shoulders of the user, to ween themselves from the instant gratification and celebrity driven addiction of a supposed dazzling dream world of sensory deprivation, which in reality is a perpetual nightmare in destroying productivity, critical thinking skills, and genuine social interaction. Unfortunately, there exists a majority that is adverse to change bordering on the pathological, and for the rest of us this equates to another spoon fed hand holding session provided by the nanny state as government continues to prosper, and individuality suffers, in a society slowly gravitating towards the hopelessly mundane.
