National Atlas Poll Puts Trump Ahead of Harris; Gun Issue Missing

October 21, 2024 By Dave Workman

A new set of polls from AtlasIntel shows former President Donald Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris in the general election, and on several key issues—curiously guns and the Second Amendment aren’t among them—with just over two weeks remaining before Election Day, Nov. 5.

According to the Atlas website, “AtlasIntel is the only web-based polling company with an A-rating in the FiveThirtyEight pollster ranking, which evaluates the historical accuracy and the methodological quality of polls.”

The polling firm was “also the most accurate pollster of the 2020 presidential election.”

Atlas conducted the presidential poll Oct. 12-17. It has a +/- 2.2 percentage point margin of error.

And the winner, at this point, looks to be Trump, with 50.7 percent of the popular vote against Harris’ 47.6 percent. In a head-to-head matchup, Trump takes 50.8 percent against Harris, with 48.1 percent.

Grassroots Second Amendment activists have been beating the drum to get gun owners to vote and not sit this election out. They are warning that the proverbial “red wave” will not happen if so many people do not vote, as they didn’t do back in 2020, which led to Joe Biden’s victory.

Guns and the Second Amendment are not listed among perceived “key issues” in this year’s election, which seems strange since the gun issue has definitely been in the spotlight since Harris revealed last month she is a gun owner, but she still wants to ban so-called “assault weapons” and take other actions.

A separate survey in seven so-called “swing states” where the votes could determine the outcome of the national election, Trump leads in five of those states.

Arizona:

Trump  49.2

Harris   48.6

Georgia:

Trump: 49.5

Harris:  48.1

Michigan:

Trump: 49.6

Harris: 46.8

Nevada*:

Trump: 48.4

Harris:  48.1

North Carolina:

Trump: 48.8

Harris:  49.5

Pennsylvania:

Trump: 49.8

Harris:  46.5

Wisconsin:

Trump: 48.2

Harris:  48.9

On the issues, according to the AtlasIntel poll, Trump leads Harris in all but three categories: Environmental protection, Reproductive rights and Health Care. In all the other categories—Education, Safeguarding democracy, Reducing poverty and inequality, Supreme Court appointments, Economy and Job market, War in Ukraine, Combatting corruption, Reducing inflation, the National Debt, Immigration, China-U.S. competition and the Conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The survey also says 39.2 percent of voters will cast their ballots on Election day. Another 33.6 percent are voting early while 24.8 percent are either mailing in their ballots or voting absentee.

An interesting revelation of the AtlasIntel survey shows 54.3 percent of voters disapprove of the job Joe Biden has done while president.

*The AtlasIntel survey data follows closely the Rasmussen poll released over the weekend, showing Trump ahead of Harris in the Silver State by a margin of 49 to 47 percent. It’s close enough to change again.

Rasmussen conducted its poll Oct. Oct. 9-14 by telephone and online.
