Rasmussen: Trump Currently Leading by 10 Points

Former President Donald Trump, seen as the likely nominee by the Republican party as its 2024 candidate for a second White House term, is leading President Joe Biden by 10 percentage points, according to a new poll by Rasmussen.

However, there is always the danger that polling this early in the campaign season breeds complacency among voters, changing the outcome of the only real poll that counts, Election Day.

According to Rasmussen, “in a three-way contest between Biden, Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 46% of Likely U.S. Voters would choose Trump, 36% would vote for Biden and nine percent (9%) would vote for Kennedy.”

“In April,” Rasmussen added, “Trump led by 6 points, 44% to 38% for Biden, with RFK Jr. at 10%. Four percent (4%) now say they’d vote for some other candidate, and another four percent (4%) are undecided.”

Making things even more interesting, Rasmussen noted that in a five-way contest including Green Party candidate Jill Stein and former Harvard Prof. Cornell West, Trump still holds the high ground with 48 percent, while Biden trails at 36 percent, Kennedy pulls in 8 percent, Stein and West each pull in one percent.

Further bad news for Biden is that 71 percent of likely voters say they are “excited” about the 2024 presidential election.

“Trump has an advantage here, too,” Rasmussen reported, “as 59% of his voters say they’re Very Excited about the election, compared to 50% of Biden voters who say the same. More Republicans (60%) than Democrats (45%) or voters not affiliated with either major party (36%) are Very Excited about this year’s presidential election.”

The survey of 1,205 U.S. Likely Voters was conducted on April 29-May 1, 2024 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
