The Occupational Hazards Of Selfies

The pathetically distasteful act of utilizing the camera and movie app on smartphone in generating a disgustingly high frequency of self-aggrandizing content may soon be reaching a needed impasse, thanks to a higher power and the brute forces of nature.

As the younger generations continue to sacrifice survival skills and critical thinking mechanisms for instant gratification in straining the storage space of global server capacity with inane images and videos, the majority of those over the age of 40, audibly groan with a frustrating sigh, as reality is being selected into extinction. Selfies are annoying and not to mention dangerous, as amateur photographers have caused accidents and inconveniences with reckless decision making in capturing the perfect shot.

Well, now both God and Mother Nature have spoken out against the narcissistic hype of auto-photography, as ABC News reports that two young women were struck by lightning during a selfie session in a German greenbelt. This is one tragedy that Angela Merkel cannot be blamed for. Apparently, the millennials were so enamored with their smartphones, they failed to recognize the potential danger of an oncoming thunderstorm, and did not execute suitable precautions in staying away from trees and getting as low to the ground as possible. Both women remain hospitalized.

While, the odds of directly encountering lightning remain at a “lotteristic” level, the incident is a clear indication that the most powerful forces in the universe have clearly made their negative thoughts towards selfies known. In other words, “put down the damn phone for a minute and enjoy life!”
