A new Rasmussen survey released this week revealed that 45 percent of likely U.S. voters would support a candidate who promised to continue U.S. military aid to Israel, while 35 percent would vote for a candidate who promised to end such support.

The poll was conducted on Aug. 26-27 and Aug. 30 from among 1,127 likely voters, with a +/- sampling error of 2 percentage points, and a 95 percent level of confidence.

According to Rasmussen,38 percent of respondents said that, looking at the history between Israel and Palestine, they sympathize more with the Israelis. Twenty-seven percent are more sympathetic toward the Palestinians. This represents a slight improvement in support for Israel, although the number is still down more than 20 points from the 59 percent support shown in November 2023, Rasmussen said.

Thirty-five percent remain undecided.

Another revelation was that a staggering 34 percent believe Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, although 37 percent disagree and 29 percent simply aren’t sure.

Breaking down the numbers, Rasmussen noted a “clear partisan division” on this question. Fifty percent of Democrats think Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians, but 55 percent of Republicans don’t agree with that position. Independent voters are evenly split on the question, with 32 percent saying genocide is being committed but 35 percent do not think so and 33 percent aren’t sure.

A majority of Republicans (56%) sympathize with more with Israel, while only 24 percent of Democrats side with Israel along with 36 percent of Independents.

Thirty-seven percent of Democrats and 16 percent of Republicans sympathize with the Palestinians, along with 26 percent of Independents.

“Sixty-three percent (63%) of Republicans say that, given a choice between two candidates for Congress, they would vote for the one who promised to continue U.S. military aid to Israel,” the Rasmussen survey said, “as would 32% of Democrats and 42% of unaffiliated voters. Forty-seven percent (47%) of Democrats, 20% of Republicans and 36% of unaffiliated voters would vote for the candidate who promised to end U.S. military aid to Israel.”
