Proposed Ohio Gun Bill Lets Owners Shoot In Self-Defense Without Retreating First

June 1, 2017 By Erik Walters

The Tables Are Starting To Turn For The Second Amendment

As organizations like the Second Amendment Foundation continue to fight for gun rights in courtrooms across America, there is a slow but steady surge of changes taking place. Changes like this Ohio bill that would help brings us back to the place our founding fathers originally intended.

“It’s A Small Change Until You’re Protecting Your Family From Harm”

A new bill has been proposed in Ohio stating that an individual would not have to retreat before using deadly force in self-defense.

If passed, the new bill will change the burden of proof to the state instead of the individual as well as abolish the current requirement that a person retreat before using deadly force in self defense when a person defends their property, others or themselves. It’s a small change until you’re protecting your family from harm.

As local12 reported:
Residents must now retreat before using any kind of self-defense if they are not in their vehicle or home. This new law would add Ohio to the list of states who have dropped this requirement.
.
This bill still gives Ohio prosecutors the chance to prove that a shooting was not done in self-defense. Right now, anyone that uses this defense must demonstrate it themselves if charged with an offense. Kentucky also makes prosecutors prove there was no self-defense. Indiana wants the shooters to prove self-defense.
.
VIDEO: WCMH-TV first reported that legislators from the Ohio House of Representatives have started House Bill 228.
