One of pro football’s top players is facing a serious weapons charge after a traffic stop last night in his hometown of Cleveland, OH.
According to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer citing police, cops in Cleveland arrested Marshon Lattimore, 24, a cornerback for the New Orleans Saints, on suspicion of receiving stolen property after allegedly being found with a stolen firearm in his possession. The arrest occurred late last night after Cleveland’s police department gang unit stopped a vehicle containing Lattimore and three other men, all of whom were also arrested on suspicion of various other weapons-related charges.
A police spokesperson told the Plain-Dealer via email that authorities stopped the vehicle for traffic-related offenses and spotted a loaded gun inside the vehicle. After a search, they discovered the football player allegedly in possession of a second loaded gun, which, according to police, had been reported stolen from a nearby suburb of the city. In addition to the arrests of the other men inside the vehicle, a citation was issued to the driver, reported the paper, for driving without proper tail lights on the car.
The Saints have not commented as of yet on this, reported ESPN, but this situation is likely to be looked into further by the National Football League as this falls under their personal conduct policies so if the player is convicted of the charges he could face in this case, he could be facing a stiff suspension from the league as a result.
Lattimore, according to the Plain-Dealer, has not been officially charged, so no court date has been set yet. However, his attorney, Marcus Sidoti, told the paper that they believe this all stemmed from a “misunderstanding” and that his client is cooperating with authorities.
